Cloud-based VoIP business phone service provider has received a 2009 Webware 100 award for communications from Webware, a CNET site. The awards are made based on the results of more than 630,000 votes cast online by the Web 2.0 user community. more

WSJ Announces 49 Technology Innovation Awards

The Wall Street Journal has given Technology Innovation Awards to 49 entrants for 2010, equalling the record number of awards in 2006.  Heading the list for the 10th annual awards is Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute, which received the Gold award for its technology to create paper-thin computer screens that can be folded and twisted. Zoom Focus received the Silver Award for eyeglasses which allow the user to manually adjust the focus, and Counsyl Inc. of Silicon Valley, the Bronze, for an inexpensive and comprehensive genetic disorders test. Nearly 600 organizations submitted entries. more

Women in Technology Names Women of the Year in Tech

The Women in Technology organization has announced the winners of the annual Women of the Year in Technology Awards presented by Grant Thornton. Lisa McVey, VP and CIO, MPT, Ambulatory and RelayHealth, McKesson Technology Solutions won the The Enterprise Business award. The Medium Business award went to Margaret L. Loper, chief scientist, Information and Communications Laboratory, Georgia Tech Research Institute. Barbara A. Carkenord, co-founder and chief curriculum strategies for B2T Training is the Small Business winner. more

Technology Makeover Competition to Award $60,000 in Technology and Services to Chicago-Area Women-Run Small Businesses

The Women’s Business Development Center has announced the second-annual Small Business Technology Makeover Competition for Chicago area, women-run businesses that have been in business for at least two years, have at last five employee workstations and at least $500,000 in revenue and that want to expand the business by using technology. A total of $60,000 in free technology products including three notebook computers, printer, projector, and a $30,000 scholarship to executive business training. Web site development services and licenses for Microsoft small business software will be also be awarded. more

Well, FreeAgent software won a software satisfaction award recently in the accounting software category. Thought we would pass the word along, but we have not tried it yet. All we know is we are not satisfied with the accounting tools we have tried to-date.
